Evaluating the Pros and Cons of Cramming for Term Papers

Combining academic coursework such as case studies and term papers with extracurricular activities such as sports and socializing will inevitably have an effect on a student. There are times that a student will take on desperate measures in order to finish a paper. An example of this type of measure is cramming.

Term papers are one of the requirements that students today cram for in an increasing frequency. Usual culprits of cramming for term papers include procrastination and time constraints. Despite cramming's certain benefits such as the retention of recent information and time for other activities, there are some disadvantages connected with this method as well. Here are some examples of the banes of cramming to a student's life:

1.Deviations and delays in schedules. The biggest reason why students cram for academic work such as term papers is to beat deadlines. Unless a student suddenly becomes a time management whiz, regular cramming usually take's a huge toll on a student's schedule. Instead of having more time for other activities, carmming can actually decrease a student's time for other activities.

2.Lack of sleep or insomnia. Having a couple of sleepless nights to finish term papers is tolerable from time to time. However sleep deprivation in a regular basis may result in insomnia and complications such as anemia or heart disease.

3.Work ethic and quality lapses. Most students who choose regular procrastination when making a paper usually find a decrease in the quality of their work. Take note that submitting inferior works is just as bad as turning in late papers.

4.Breakdowns and anxiety attacks. Cramming for term papers brings havoc on a student’s nerves as well as the people around them. Dealing with unnecessary stress crumbles down a student's composure until he or she breaks down.

Procrastinating for term papers does affect a student's overall performance if done occasionally. However, doing this on a regular basis is definitely not for everyone. Students should take this approach with proper caution and moderation.
