Self Tanning During Pregnancy: Is It Safe?

Self Tanning During Pregnancy: Is It Safe?

Are you pregnant and looking for the best way to achieve a bronze skin tone? Do you want to do it the safest way?

You are pregnant and beautiful, many women feel more beautiful during pregnancy than any other time in life, so why not also have the sun kissed glow to match the natural glow you carry now? Your body is changing physically in many magical ways, and you should feel as good as possible both inside and out.

Tanning is one way to feel noticeably more beautiful and sunless tanning is a way to achieve great results while being safe. The effects vary depending on the your complexion and the type of product you use. All the same, getting that bronze skin tone will end in pleasurable results, even during pregnancy.

High exposure to the sun to get a tan is never safe for you even if you are not pregnant. The sun’s UV rays can cause skin cancer, early aging and other serious skin diseases. In the US, skin cancer is the most common type of cancer, and dermatologists and doctors attribute a large percentage of the increase of skin cancer, in young women in particular, to exposure to UV rays brought about by tanning. So avoid getting soaked in the sun.

During pregnancy, you will have drastic physiological changes that may also bring many skin changes including an increased amount of melanocyte (which are cells that produce skin pigment) and estrogen, which together may darken certain areas of your skin. Sunless tanning can provide you the even skin tone you desire. Moreover, while you are pregnant, you are more sensitive to UV radiation; therefore you should avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.

Self tanning products are a safe alternative to sun tanning, even for pregnant women like you, since tanners mainly use DHA (dihydroxyacetone) as the tanning ingredient. DHA is a natural and safe component tested and approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. DHA has no underlying side effects since it does not penetrate; DHA only works on the outer most layer of your skin. This ingredient is derived from sugar cane, and was even used as a cure for glycogen storage disease for children in the 1950’s.

Self tanning is a great way to get a bronze skin tone while you are pregnant. You need not get soaked in the sun, or even make visits to tanning salons, and most of all you get natural-looking tan quickly and safely in the privacy of your own home.

Always check with your OBGYN when using new products, but self-tanning has been tested and proven for over thirty years, to enhance your natural “glow”!
